Schools Challenge (TSC)

“In a normal education, everything is designed to suppress spontaneity, but I wanted to develop it.”

WHAT IS THE TSC?

Since 2005 (this year is our 20th Anniversary!) Impro Australia has been running the TheatreSports™ Schools Challenge (TSC) – the only schools drama competition of its kind in NSW.

It brings together students from over 150 government, systemic and independent schools across Sydney, Wollongong, Newcastle, Bowral and Nowra to perform comic and dramatic scenes made up entirely on the spot.

Teams of 3-5 students from each school perform 1-, 2- and 3-minute improvised scenes live on stage, judged by our team of improvisation professionals. TheatreSports™ increases students’ confidence, listening skills and teamwork, as well as strengthening their problem-solving abilities and creative thinking, all in a fun, inclusive and supportive environment.

Here’s a clip of Secondary & Primary students playing in the TSC…

HOW DOES IT WORK?

THE TSC HAS FOUR DIVISIONS…

INTERMEDIATE (stage 5, high school years 9-10)

SENIOR (stage 6, high school years 11-12)

Both the Intermediate & Senior TSC are held in Term 2.

JUNIOR (stage 4, high school years 7-8)

PRIMARY (stage 3, primary school years 5-6)

Both the Junior & Primary TSC are held in Term 4,

and registrations open at the end of  Term 2.

Each team competes in a local regional heat. The highest scoring teams (half) go through to a regional semi-final.

The 2 highest scoring teams from each Junior Semi-Final go through to the Junior TSC Grand Final, usually hosted by one of the schools in the Grand Final.

The 2 highest scoring teams from each Intermediate & Senior Semi-Final go through to the TheatreSports™ Schools Challenge Grand Finals

at THE ENMORE THEATRE on  SUNDAY JUNE 22nd

INTERMEDIATE FINAL 2:00pm,  SENIOR FINAL 5:00pm.

NOTE: In the Primary Division, each team competes twice, once

in a heat & once again in a final (there’s no Primary Grand Final).
